Boxeur – The Comic Book

  • La Crognote Rieuse - Comic Book and Manga Store 40 Rue de la Bonneterie Avignon, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, 84000 France (map)

We are delighted to introduce you to Boxeur, the comic book inspired by the play Boxeur – An Antifascist Story, by Pequod Compagnie, on stage at the Avignon Festival at the Théâtre L’Atelier 44—44 Rue Thiers, 84000 Avignon—every day at 4:05 p.m. (no performance on Wednesdays).

The comic book is illustrated by Mattia Dossi and written by Alex Crippa. The historical research was conducted by Lorenzo Vicentini.

It will be previewed by Maura Pettorruso (director and playwright) and Stefano Pietro Detassis (actor in the play), accompanied by Alexia Béné (bookseller), at the La Crognote Rieuse bookstore on Thursday, July 16, at 6:30 p.m.

Boxer is the story of two men who have always fought in the ring, but who will have to face the rise of fascism and Nazism in the midst of World War II. Eugenio is Italian; he is fleeing fascism. Victor, on the other hand, is a Tunisian fleeing poverty. One is a socialist worker; the other is Jewish. Their paths cross in Paris on the eve of a boxing match, which is unfortunately postponed when the war breaks out.

Eugenio and Victor are, above all, two athletes who dream of a better life and of being able to box—all of which are prevented by the war. Their personal struggle then turns into a collective revolution. Eugenio becomes the worker-boxer who fights for all exploited workers, and Victor becomes the symbol of resistance against Nazism and fascism.
