About us
Pequod Compagnia was founded in 2020 following an artistic encounter between Maura Pettorruso (director and playwright) and Stefano Pietro Detassis (performer).
Pequod Compagnia focuses on contemporary dramaturgy and dynamic performances, strongly anchored to stage dramaturgy, which mix languages and themes to convey our urgent concerns about the present.
Utopia/dystopia is the common thread linking three of our shows: Zombie Survival Kit (2022), our first production, Boxeur ( 2024), and La società dei ribelli (The Societyof Rebels, 2025). The poetics linking these three shows is the blending of present and past, and the need to imagine a future in which utopias can become reality.
Other productions are the result of collaborations with professionals with whom we share part of our artistic and creative journey: Troppo bella per essere vera (Too Good to Be True) ( 2024 ), based on the text by Prof. Massimiano Bucchi, professor of sociology and author of essays on society and science; Compartimos - Un sogno chiamato Argentina ( 2024), from our collaboration with the Trentini nel Mondo association; Corda Doppia (2024), from the desire of the DolomitiOpen association - which deals with mountains and disabilities - to give voice to its experience of inclusion.
Pequod compagnia also collaborates in the artistic direction of the Teatro di Villazzano with regard to the creation of the contemporary theater program; in the "Festival Tabù," dedicated to topics in our society that are difficult to discuss publicly; and in the "Intrecci - il teatro fuori dal teatro" festival, organized in collaboration with venues in the city of Trento.
Our international vocation led us, in 2023, to our first experience abroad, in Argentina, with the show Compartimos - Un sogno chiamato Argentina (Compartimos - A dream called Argentina), which tells the story of an Italian girl who goes to Argentina to meet her fellow immigrants. On that occasion, we performed 10 shows in 10 different cities. The show is still being distributed in Italy.
In 2025, the company performed for the first time in France, participating in the Avignon Festival Le Off with the show Boxeur, presented in a version recited in French.
Boxeur is a show that is enjoying great success in Italy, with almost 100 performances to its credit. Thanks to its participation in the Milano Off Fringe Festival and the Catania Off Fringe Festival, it has managed to establish contacts with international operators who are enabling us to organize a tour in several European countries. In May 2026, we will participate in the Prague Fringe Festival with a version performed entirely in English at the Divadlo Inspirace theater. In July 2026, we will return for the second time to the Festival d'Avignon Le Off at the Atelier44 theater, presenting the show for the first time in a version performed in Italian, French, and German.
